Women’s Ministries

There are a number of meetings and groups at Tabernacle especially for the women of the Church:

Women's Hour

Women’s Hour is a long standing meeting at Tabernacle, with a long and noble history.  The members meet on a Monday afternoon at 2.45pm for prayer, teaching, fellowship and mutual support.  Usually an opening time of worship is followed by prayer and intercession, the reading of scripture and then a talk or presentation either by one of the members or, more often, a visiting speaker.  The meeting usually ends with worship and is followed by refreshments.

The President of the Women’s Hour Meeting is Mrs Gwyneth Jones.

Ladies Evening Fellowship

This meeting began as Young Wives many years ago on Tuesday afternoons.  In the 70’s, as well as mothers beginning to return to work, we realized that there were several single ladies at Tabernacle for whom there was no meeting because they worked in the daytime.  The change to evening meetings was welcomed, not only by them, but also by mothers who could now enjoy some child-free fellowship and relaxation.

We meet twice a month on Tuesday evenings, alternating between devotional talks and local topics or educational interests.  Each meeting begins with a short devotional time before the speaker, and ends with prayer and then tea and coffee at about 8.45pm.  The talking afterwards is a valuable time of sharing and support.  All ladies are welcome.  We would love to meet you.

The President is Mrs. Jean Davies and the secretary is Mrs. Margaret Henry.

Ladies Choir

A few years ago Lorna Lock gathered together a group of ladies to re-form the Tabs Ladies Choir.  The ladies meet on Wednesday evenings at 7.30pm for about an hour and half to practice and enjoy a time of fun and fellowship whilst also concentrating on the serious side of preparing pieces for services.

Since becoming Senior Pastor Roger has been keen to have the choir involved in services more often, particularly during the celebration of communion.

Whilst we have seen new members come along, sadly others have moved on so we would love some new ladies to come and join us (or old members re-join us!)  If you enjoy worshipping God in song then why not come along one Wednesday to see what we get up to.  It may be just what you’ve been looking for!

Dorcas Group

Several of us ladies of various ages started 'DORCAS' after the original meeting, which was a craft group, ended. We meet on Tuesday afternoons at 2pm in the Conference Room where we enjoy fellowship and putting the world to rights. All this is done while we knit and crochet blankets, scarves and infant cardigans/jumpers which are packed away to go to various orphanages in Romania.

We are few in number being just seven but what we do is made with love and thoughts of how warm and cosy our items will make some orphaned child. One of our group is a lady who is almost totally blind but she crochets very pretty blankets with rarely a mistake. She is accompanied by her husband who kindly makes our cup of tea or coffee which is most welcome after all the talking we do!

We even have ladies from various churches in Barry contributing lovely articles including knitted toys which we are sure are well accepted. Lately we have had bags of garments left at the desk by a lady who we have never met. All we have is her phone number to say a big thank you. Sometimes we are given wool that is no longer needed and it is pounced on with eager anticipation of what we can do with it, even the smallest ball is made use of.

So, now you know a little about us, why not come and join us and make some orphaned child happy and warm.

Women’s Small Groups

There are several small groups which meet during the day each week for prayer, Bible study and fellowship.  These are especially useful for those women who are unable to make a regular commitment to evening meetings, but who wish to be fully involved in the small groups life of the church.  There are meetings on several different days.

Further details for any of the Women’s Meetings at Tabernacle can be obtained via the Church Office on 029 20702 690 or at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Yearly Women’s Retreat

Every year the women of the church are invited to go away together for a weekend so spend time in fellowship, prayer and receive teaching from a guest speaker. Normally about 30 women attend this and it's a great time where they can lift each other up in encouragement and come back into the church ready to serve God with a fresh passion.
